Brick Wall

Hi everyone!  My name is Dana.  I love photography.  When I was younger (and even now), I would watch my dad take pictures every where we went.  My dad's photography is amazing!  He is such a perfectionist though, so nothing seems good enough for him.  He has taken amazing landscape/animal pictures from places like Australia and Palau.  He also has stunning pictures of people and life in places like Japan and China.  The one thing that has amazed me the most about my dad's photo taking skills is his attention to detail and his patience... oh, his patience.  He would take pictures of the most bizarre objects; things like brick walls, a leaf, the ground, pretty much anything.  Not only would he take pictures of a brick wall, but he would sit there for half an hour taking picture after picture of the brick wall.  If it were me, I don't think I would have even noticed the intricate designs and textures on the brick wall, let alone take a picture of it.  I truly envy my dad's ability to see beauty in things that most people don't even look twice at.  My dad will often take trips down to Death Valley just for the adventure and photo opportunities.  All night long, he will sit at the Devil's Race Track  with a very slow shutter speed on is camera, and wait hours to take one single picture of the beautiful back drop and the night sky.  I definitely admire his determination to get a fantastic photo (I will see if he will let me post his pictures on my blog sometime so you all can see them).  My dad is definitely the person who inspired me to (try to) take pictures.

I just recently graduated from college with a degree in Business Marketing....  I know, I know, it's not very exciting.  The reason I mention it, though, is because it took me what seems like an eternity to accomplish.  It took me a long time to decide which subject I wanted to study.  When I first started college, I wanted to be a photographer.  I started taking digital photography classes, which was actually really new to me because I had been used to taking black and white film pictures.  I know, it seems old fashioned but when I was growing up, me and my dad would take black and white film pictures and develop them in our very own darkroom that was in our basement.  After the semester was over, I looked at my portfolio and I wasn't very impressed.  I felt that all of my pictures were either out of focus or too busy with so many colors.   I got very discouraged and decided to go a different (more practical) route, academically; hence the Business Marketing Degree.  However, now that I am graduated, it seems like all I do is go to work, go on Facebook/ Instagram, and sleep.  I need to start doing something that makes me happy and photography makes me happy.

Before I start, I just want to warn you of a few things.  First off, I am not a writer.  I am used to typing business reports that are very boring and straight to the point.  I also have a very hard time putting into words the ideas that are in my brain.  I feel like anything that I write down on paper is very inadequate compared to the way that it is formed in my head.  However, I will do my very best to try to make this blog interesting and fun to read.  Secondly, I know my pictures are not all gems.  As of right now, all I really have to take pictures with is my iPhone and occasionally a borrowed camera.  I don't want to put the blame all on my cameras... I know that I have tons of room for improvement.  My blog may be like a brick wall, but hopefully, if you look close enough, you will be able to see the beauty within it.

Thank you so much for visiting my blog! Hope you enjoy it as much as I do!
